Feb. Rural Women magazine was listed as one of the recommended publications by the General Administration of Press and Publication in 2008. In 2009, Rural Women was introduced to more than 8,000 farmers' libraries through government sponsorship.
Feb. 22nd. Honorary Board Chair Wu Qing and Board Chair Xie Lihua were invited to attend a meeting with Hillary Clinton, the American Secretary of State, on her last day in China. 20 other Chinese women also attended this meeting.
Mar. 20th. Su Ling, Vice President of Government Affairs, and Peng Jie, Coordinator of Public Affairs from ExxonMobil (China) visited BCDCRW, providing funds to support the literacy program and protection of folk culture in addition to computer training funds. Since 2007, computer training and life-skills training classes have been implemented with the funds from ExxonMobil (China). The literacy program also received a donation from the Goldman Foundation in November.
Mar. 22nd. The sixth board meeting was held and the financial situation of 2008 was reported during the meeting. Zhang Yue, the host of the CCTV program Half of the Sky was elected to be a new member of the board of directors.
Apr. 23rd. More than 80 students and teachers from the Practical Skills Training Center attended Mr. Cao Renchao's donation ceremony, during which 1.5 million RMB worth of royalties from his newly released book, On Momentum: Cao Renchao's Fortune Revelation, was donated to the Practical Skills Training Center.
Apr. 27th. The 7th correspondents' training session was held in the Practical Skills Training Center by Rural Women magazine.
Jul. 12th-17th. 30 mothers and women activists from villages attended psychological aids training session for Dujiangyan mothers in Beijing. Zhen Yan, Vice President of the All-China Women's Federation, was present to provide support and encouragement to the mothers.
Jul. 20th. A team of 16 people, including Yan Junqi, Vice-President of NPC, Zhu Yongxin, Vice Chairperson of the Central Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), and Zhao Guanghua, member of CPPCC and Secretary-General of the CAPF inspected the Practical Skills Training Center. Five media groups, including People's Daily Online, reported this on this event.
Aug. 15th. The 7th board meeting was held in BCDCRW. Ex-secretary-general Gao Guanglin's resignation application was approved and Wu Zhiping became the newly-appointed secretary general. BCDCRW's five-year strategic was reviewed before the board members conducted self-assessments during the meeting.
Aug. 19th. Professional-skills training sessions for 80 health workers in villages affected by the Sichuan earthquake disaster began in Meishan Medical School. This program was implemented by the Practical Skills Training Center with a donation of RMB 100,000 from Yue Rong Global Enterprise Social Foundation.
Sep. 26th. The Rural Women Long Distance Walk Program, cosponsored by World Education Foundation, the Heqin Social Welfare Institute, and the Central University of Finance and Economics, was held in Changping District in Beijing. Oct. 28th. The inauguration ceremony for the Domestic Workers' Cooperative, promoted by the Migrant Women's Club, was held in Beijing. It is the first Chinese cooperative to be managed entirely by domestic workers.
Dec.16th-18th. The International Seminar on Decent Jobs for Domestic Workers and Employment Promotion was held in Beijing. The appeal, which called for non-discrimination and more respect for domestic workers, was jointly made by the ILO, government departments, trade union, women's federation, research institutes and domestic worker representatives. A document advocating legislation for domestic workers' labor regulation and a policy proposal draft were submitted to the State Council after the conference.
2009. Books including Case Study and Analysis of Women's Legal Protection, Civil Rights Protection Manual, Chasing after Dreams, We are One Family and Collected Stories of the Literacy Program were published. 2009. The event to find ¡°China's Most Promising Rural Women¡± organized by Rural Women magazine came to a close and the 100 selected women were announced.
The Practical Skills Training Center was awarded ¡°Best Non-Government Funded Educational Unit of 2009¡± by the Beijing Education Committee. Principal Luo Zhaohong, Chen Hu and Huang Shuanying were awarded outstanding administrative personnel teachers of 2009 respectively.
