Rural Women¡¡magazine¡¡
¡¡¡¡Rural Women, formally Rural Women Knowing All, is the only monthly
magazine for rural women in the country. Starting publication in
1993, its readers are primarily females between the ages 16 and
45 and who have received primary school education. Chen Muhua, former
Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People¡¯s
Congress and President of the All-China Women¡¯s Federation, and
renowned writer, the late Bin Xin, wrote words of congratulations
on the debut issue of Rural Women.
¡¡¡¡Since the UN¡¯s World Conference on Women in 1995, Rural Women
staff members have attended many international conferences abroad
and established partnerships with international NGOs in more than
20 countries. The magazine has become a window to the world that
shows the lives of rural women in China.
Mission:
¡¡¡¡Rural Women magazine is focused on the prosperity and destiny
of rural women in China. With a gender-oriented perspective, Rural
Women records women¡¯s footprints of progress, disseminates gender-oriented
concepts and provides information about production, business, culture
and life.
Contents:
¡¡¡¡There are three components: 1. State policies, laws and regulations
about the ¡°countryside, agriculture and farmers.¡± 2. Information
about production technology. 3. Life guidance and knowledge. The
major columns include: Special Discussion, Admirable Life, Emotion,
Women Village Heads¡¯ Forum, Farm Technology and Keys to Financial
Success.
Character:
¡¡¡¡Rural Women magazine aims to involve rural women in managing the
magazine. They are not only readers, but also writers and distributors
of the magazine.
¡¡¡¡Apart from editing and publishing the magazine, Rural Women also
makes efforts to help women to improve the conditions of their lives.
To meet the demands of rural women, the center has raised funds
from various channels. The funds are used to carry out a number
of poverty-relief and aspiration¡¡boosting projects that promote
rural women¡¯s progress and development.
Distribution:
Since the start of its publications eleven years ago, the magazine
has been distributed to more than 400 counties in 26 provinces,
municipalities and autonomous regions. Its accumulated circulation
has reached more than 17 million copies with several hundred millions
of readers.
